The Sales Department=MD Matheson music made by computers operated by a human.
After successfully leading the Beef Terminal consortium through five albums Toronto, Canada's MD Matheson put that project on hiatus and began to focus on music made with computers operated by a human. After working mostly with guitars and rudimentary drum machines and delay pedals on the Beef Terminal project, Matheson moved towards laptops and headphones for this project. After a few low key releases (2007s Accounts on Montreal's TQA Records and 2008s [sub]Ways on Portugal's Test Tube netlabel) Matheson returns to Noise Factory Records (via his own Kill Ideas imprint) to release Measured Life, a collection of 10 ambient/electronic tracks recorded over the past two years. Whittling down the songs from a pool of around 200 tracks the songs invoke memories of early Boards of Canada, with a dose of Aphex Twin circa some of the more ambient stylings of the Selected Ambient Works era. Broken beats, fractured conversations and loopy synths conjure urban environments and city streets, accessible by public transit and open windows.
Delete your heart. Listen with headphones.
